How To Get Rid of a Double Chin
The first thing people notice about you when they first meet you is your face, so it’s not surprising that we all want to look our best. One common facial characteristic that can cause us to feel self conscious is the appearance of a ‘double -chin’.
Today we’re going to go over how to get rid of a double chin.
Sometimes referred to by health care professionals as sub-mental fat, a double-chin is a prevalent disorder where an individual has a layer of excess fat below their jaw. A double chin is often associated with weight gain, but may also be caused in part by genetics or loose skin from aging. Many people who are lean still end up with the appearance of a double chin or a patch of ‘loose skin’ below their jaw line.
Whether we know it or not, we often judge people on the basis of their appearance and in particular on their face. Evolution may have something to do with this with some facial features that look especially ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’ being the way in which our ancestors could tell if a prospective mate was healthy and fertile. Now a long long time later, we have this built-in frameworks that don’t necessarily matter in our modern world but still affect how we see others and how they see us.
To improve the appearance of your face and to help get rid of a double chin we can start by working the muscles in your throat and mouth to strengthen and tighten this region.
WEIGHT LOSS
There’s no arguing with the reality that losing weight is the best way to minimize your double chin if your new second chin is due to surplus fat. Unfortunately, spot reduction based exercises with the intention to get rid of fat from a specific area are a weight loss myth, you can’t target fat loss like that.

FACIAL EXERCISES
While spot reduction of fat from a specific region of the body does not work, by exercises specific muscle groups you help tighten and shape them improving the overall aesthetic appearance.
The following 3 exercises are easy to do and if you stick with them and do them a few times a day you’ll be sure to notice results in no time (well, about three months).
1. TONGUE PRESS
- Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth.
- Add pressure by pushing your tongue to close your mouth’s roof entirely
- Being making quiet “mh mh mh mh” sounds
- It’s very essential to create the humming / vibrating noise when doing these exercises because they help focus the muscles.
2. CHIN PRESS
- Place your elbow on a table with your fist under your chin.
- Try to open your mouth while exerting force with your wrist to create resistance.
- Hold then release.
3. JAW JUT
- Tilt your head back and look toward the ceiling.
- Push your lower jaw forward to feel a stretch under the chin.
- Hold the jaw jut for a 10 count.
- Relax your jaw and return your head to a neutral position.
IN SUMMARY

I found myself able to do more and more reps after just a couple of weeks–a clear sign that my muscles in the jaw and neck had reinforced themselves and gotten stronger.
