Why Japanese Women Are Almost Always In Good Shape

The average ordinary lifespan for Japanese women is 87, compared to 81 for American women and 75 for Filipino women. Japanese women live longer than most other people by nearly a decade. On occasion, they look as if they are resistant to aging, with many Japanese women in their 40s looking near identical to how they looked in their 20s.

Japan also has 64 centenarians (people over 100 years old) per 100,000 people, while the United States has 30 centenarians per 100,000 people. So roughly speaking, the Japanese are over twice as likely to live more than one hundred years than Americans are.

While there are no doubt some genetic factors at play or some other various things we don’t have control over, we may be able to learn a thing or two by looking at the average Japanese woman’s diet and lifestyle.

The Japanese Diet

Traditional Japanese cuisine includes foods that protect against weight gain and even aging. These foods, such as fish, seaweed, fruits, soy, rice, vegetables (lots of garlic), and green tea, are all staples of the standard Japanese diet.

What’s more impressive is that nearly all of them have proven anti-aging related properties and contribute greatly to healthy fat burning and weight management; how the Japanese people stumbled into such a healthy diet while we were all eating fried potatoes and sugar-filled cereals is a mystery.

It is also said that the Japanese appreciate home-cooked meals consisting of grilled fish, a dish of healthy rice, cooked vegetables, soup, berries, and a nice warm cup of tea to finish it off. The Japanese are the greatest fish consumers on the planet.

As a matter of fact, nearly 10% of all fish intake worldwide is attributed to this nation. This is unexpected as they account for just 2% of the world population, so it’s safe to say they are eating a lot of fish.

The Japanese seldom consume sugary foods, and when they do, it’s always in small portions. Many believe that Japanese ladies don’t seem to enjoy chocolate, cookies, or cakes. Yet, the reality is they’ve been shown the negative long-term implications these foods carry for their general well-being and choose to be healthy.

The Japanese Tabata Workout

Tabata training is a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, featuring a set of exercises that last four minutes each. The standard structure of the program is as follows:

  • Work out intensely for 20 seconds
  • Rest for 10 seconds
  • Complete 8 full rounds of this

The idea is to push yourself as hard as you can for 20 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. This is one set. You’ll complete eight sets of each exercise. Follow along with the video below to go full Tabata (No Equipment needed):

Final Notes On Japanese Fitness

Japanese people seem gifted with healthy long lives and an ability to stay thin well into their later years. While some of this may be due to genetic factors, there is no doubt that the Japanese diet and lifestyle has a major impact on their health.

A nutritious diet that includes lots of fish, healthy rice, cooked vegetables, soup, berries, and tea, along with an active lifestyle with lots of cardio and fitness. This combination is the main reason Japanese people are fit and healthy.
